We are thrilled to share the exciting news of a special visitor we welcomed this month at Ubuntu: Trevor Rees Jones from the Rees Jones Foundation. The team greeted him with a joyful and spirited Ubuntu-style welcome, complete with singing and dancing. This marked Trevor's second visit to Ubuntu, and it was truly a pleasure to showcase the profound impact he has had on our organization and the surrounding community.
The Rees Jones Foundation played a pivotal role in our water project, where they not only purchased the land but also financed the drilling and piping. This project revitalized our farming initiative, which had faced challenges due to the lack of rainfall in Maai Mahiu. As a result, numerous opportunities have opened up for us at Ubuntu. We are now able to provide employment to parents working in the gardens, sell fresh produce in alignment with our health goals, and further enhance our farm-to-table approach at the Café.
During his visit, Trevor had the opportunity to witness the incredible transformation brought about by the Children's Wellness Center. When he first visited us two years ago, the center had yet to be opened. Additionally, the Rees Jones Foundation was instrumental in providing us with a bus equipped with a hydraulic lift, making transportation accessible for children in wheelchairs. This has been a tremendous relief for parents, as public transportation previously posed significant challenges and risks for their children. Gone are the days of parents carrying their children for miles on their backs; thanks to the bus, this is no longer their reality. We are forever grateful for this life-changing contribution.
To commemorate this special day, we planted a tree just outside the Children's Wellness Center. As it grows and flourishes, we hope it symbolizes our growing partnership and shared commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of our children.
