Women Economic Empowerment Training For Parents Of Children With Special Needs

It has always been our goal to empower our parents through employment since the inception of this organization. Many with children with special needs were forced to stay home meaning giving their child a dignified life was simply a pipe dream. This idea is what led to our first maker mums. This was a group of women who were taught sewing in order to make products that could empower their lives leading to what we call enterprise today.

So starting in June we enrolled more parents in a 3-month long bead working class. This is our opportunity for the two organizations in Ubuntu to collaborate! We want to use the enterprise to empower the moms to the children in the foundation. No longer should a parent drop off their child and  go home and feel hopeless! This skill will be useful also as something they can use outside of Ubuntu as well as it gives them a skill they can market and start a business with.

We are currently 3 weeks into the program and we are happy to report that several parents have really begun to show real promise and we could not be happier. Another big reason that we started this class is for our parents to meet each other and share their experiences. This social support group will help parents meet and interact with people who are experiencing the same daily struggles that they themselves go through. We hope that in turn this can lead to parents feeling more supported and closer to our community.
